Getting there...slowly

**** Please note I've changed the opening night to Thursday 17 September ****

My flyer is almost finalised.

Front:

Back:

I used to love it in old black and white movies when some young flirt would scrawl her name and number in a matchbook and hand it over to the dashing gentleman (they're always 20% more dashing in back and white, don't you think?).

So I've given a nod to that old pick-up with a handwritten message on the back of my flyer. ;)

32 days and counting....

Two down...

Two new pieces (but only one title so far)

'Girl From every Port' (below) will be the flyer image for my upcoming show. Now...off to put that flyer together.

The scary new job

I mentioned previously that my art has had to take a back seat lately. (Sorry art.)

Here's why:

Dave's the one that looks half decent, I'm the squinter (click on it to see just how bad that picture really is) and we've just taken on a new job as joint Creative Directors at CUBED Communications.

It's exciting - we leave each night positively buzzing about the potential in this agency and all the things we'd like to do.

It's also fucking scary.

Not just work-wise, but art-wise too.

I've got a solo show coming up, some interviews on the horizon and potential magazine work that I suspect I'll have to turn down. At the same time, I've been asked to judge The Globals (an advertising award show from New York) and put more time into industry events while figuring out how to be a good creative director.

There's too much happening at once - and it's all good. I just need to cram a few more hours into each day.

Anyone have a time machine? I'll return it last week.

How to write a blog

Easy reading is damn hard writing
Nathaniel Hawthorne

Have you visited copyblogger yet?

It's a fantastic resource for bloggers...and copywriters for that matter. In fact, I stole that Nathaniel Hawthorne quote from one of their tip pages. ;)

Essentially it teaches you how to write in a way that will attract readers. And, as you'd expect, it's a very easy read.

Here are three of my favourite recent posts from them:

How to Motivate People to Buy
Is Commenting on Blogs a Smart Traffic Strategy?
5 Simple Ways to Open Your Post With a Bang

Good stuff. Easy to read.

Off you go.

Progress - The Girl From Every Port

She's coming along nicely (the little tart).

There's still a lot of work left in her, but now it's all details.

I don't want to crop the base of this piece with the frame. I like the look of her fading away - So there'll be a hell of a lot of blending work in that part.

But at least the piece I want to use for my flyer is almost there.

One (almost) down. Nineteen (or so) to go!

Wish me luck.
