Four Successes and a Failure

None of them starring Hugh Grant (get it?...oh never mind)

I spent most of the long weekend painting and sketching (and erasing) and created four very lovely ACEOs - one of them quite different to my usual style.

There's 'Green Tea' (who sold about 20 minutes after I listed her - man, some people are fast)

And the 'failure' was this piece which I'm going to redo today.
It started out with promise (as most things do)...



And then it got erased and redrawn so many times, the paper's almost see through.


I like the general idea, but I have no idea where I should put colour and where I shouldn't, whether the background should have a giant threatening tentacle-waving octopus in it etc and so forth.

So I'll be having a good, hard think about it (ouch) and redrawing the whole lot.

I like the pose, I like the way her hair becomes the floor, I looove the shoes! - and I certainly like the idea of rescuing a fish from a restaurant (not that you necessarily can tell that from the image - but I know!).

But I need to learn to solve the problems before I'm working on the finished piece. Just impatient I guess. ;)

Incredible art from Dilka Bear

I always find it interesting that the type of art I absolutely MUST buy isn't at all like my own!

Dilka Bear from Trieste (my gorgeous Italian aunt would be thrilled!) is my absolute favourite artist on Etsy at the moment.

I simple cannot get enough of her gorgeous work. And it's not just the art she produces..oh no, no! It's the way she packages it up that has me absolutely hooked.

Here's the treasure I recently received in the mail:

Even her handwriting is gorgeous.


She draws little original designs on the packaging...


..and not just the front of it!


This is the ACEO itself - 'Grandpa' is a darling addition to my original Dilka Bear knitting pig


And for the bargain price of an ACEO I've wound up with a pile of honest to goodness TREASURE! There's even a sweet little drawing on the beautiful brown twine she used to tie it all up with.

That's enough posting. I'm off to her shop to buy the other piece I've been eyeing off for a few days.

I don't know her name yet, but she's certainly taken deportment lessons. I have trouble balancing books on my head.


She doesn't have a name yet, and she's not quite finished. But I love the colours here and I'm enjoying playing around with paper and thread.

I used to make greeting cards when I was younger - ribbons and stitched on bits of paper and beads. Intricate little things that took far too long to make and sold for far too little.

Old habits die hard and I do adore the look of collage elements in art these days.

Catherine Campbell does this superbly. And Kelly Smith has some wonderful pieces with collage in them, including this absolute darling that I had to buy last week!!

Grafuck 4

So today is the deadline for Grafuck 4 entries.

For those who aren't familiar with this publication, it's a selection of the wildest, weirdest and best erotic art from around the world. Previous editions have included work by several of my favourite artists...

I've sent three pieces and I'm crossing my fingers that they'll accept one.

If I were smart I wouldn't blog about these things before they've happened, but let's face it folks - I'm not the sharpest pencil in the case!

I really love the first one - and I think it's appropriately 'erotic' while keeping the sense of fun and play that I like to have in my work.
