Je suis désolée

Every few months I shift style a little and I suspect this may be a slightly new direction for me.

I'm going to leave the brown cardboard for a bit (Bill will be thrilled - he never liked it anyway) and draw this new piece on a stark white background - give the pastel shades a brightness they won't get on my usual recycled card.

Here are the initial sketches...

I adore the way this girl's despondence clashes with the candy coloured landscape (OK I know it's a sketch, but I can see the candy colours so work with me here).

As I was drawing her, I kept coming back to Madonna's opening line in Sorry: Je suis désolée. That may wind up being the title of this one.

I'm hoping to make a start on it this week. I have a huge piece of really thick lush watercolour card lying on the dining room table, and it's been begging me for attention for weeks.

Will post updates as I go.
